Simon Rich trained with Alan Caiger-Smith at the Aldermaston Pottery in the early sixties. His present workshop was established in Narberth, Pembrokeshire in 1972. He has been featured on BBC Radio Four and on TV. Simon exibits in Japan and many other major cities in the UK.
For the last 25 years, Simon has been working on and perfecting
zinc crystalline glazes. The glazes are applied to porcelain and then fired
to 1270° C. The kiln temperature is then dropped to 1140° C
and held for up to five hours to allow the zinc oxide to form
crystals.
Simon also explores other techniques including terrasigilata
and raku pieces , along with glazed ware ranging in colour from
azurite (blue) to deep rich reds.
Some examples of Simons work are shown in this view of the galleries interior.
